RIP IT UP : April 1992 A nice wall of sound with slight melodic tendancies that leave the listener wishing for more. SUNDAY STAR : June 1992 Fine intelligent guitar pop. Sweet, crunchy with six well written and crafted songs. A stand out . . . STAMP MAG : June 1992 Anthemic pop rock with emphasis on a riverbed guitar sound. FUNHOUSE make the music swoop and dive like few others at the moment. Slightly dewey-eyed lyrics with enough cynicism in them to stop it getting dumb. MY DEVIANT DAUGHTER : REVIEWS SOUTHLAND TIMES : July 1992 Picture a cold desolate landscape ravaged and scarred. A bleak, harsh perspective that almost becomes hypnotic. Passionate. RIP IT UP : April 1992 Occupy a niche of ambient noise distortion in white heat grunge that seems to effortlessly cut you in two from the tip of your mind to the crux of your stomach with no apologies. STAMP MAG : June 1992 An emphasis on simplicity and repetion that works to a tee. Sounds like someone opened the door and let a hard Southerly in. MOE FANZINE : Florida : Spring 1992 Music propelled by powerful drums and an insistent bassline. The guitars wash over things and insinuate figures and feedback at the edges of conscionesness. Dark and full of tension. Make a date with this daughter. CYNTHIA SHOULD SOUTHLAND TIMES : July 1992 Light , bright and breezy the closest of these YELLOW EYE bands to traditional Dunedin style. RIP IT UP : April 1992 CYNTHIA SHOULD impress with their smooth perception of jangly pop. STAMP MAG : June 1992 A sort of downer DUDES for the 90's. SUNDAY STAR : June 1992 A nice plaintive, poppy edge with a singer who sounds like JORDAN LUCK on valium. Accessibility is something that comes through in all of CYNTHIA SHOULD's material. Poppy music which has an edge and a rhythmic groove, danceable stuff. WHEETBIX BOYS : REVIEWS SOUTHLAND TIMES : July 1992 The weeties beg steal and borrow a bit of everything, to stitch together their bright patchwork mosaic. There's a smile in their songs. Warm pleasant and lively. Infectiously likeable... Ballad For Brunner is a beauty. DOMINION SUNDAY TIMES : September 1992 This fourpiece are mixing lightweight humourous (well downright silly) pop like Full Cream Emulsified Dream with sweet ballads. In The Grey opens like a dirge for a cold wet Dunedin day, but bursts into a bouncing celebration of a town where the dress sense is black. |
