NEWS UPDATE 3 : JANUARY 2001

Well into the new year now and much to report back on in the walk lane paced life that is the Yellow Eye label. Happy new year and welcome to 2001.

Tardis Recording On Hold: Warren Maxwell lead sax of TARDIS (also TRINITY ROOTS and SOUTHSIDE OF BOMBAY) has begun remixing and editing the TARDIS album. Warren is looking at putting more life and warming up the overall feel of the material taking it more toward the Dub side of things, fingers crossed all will be ready for final production in March.

c.l.bob gigs and album: c.l bob, who are now a sextet, are just completing a two week South Island tour before jetting over to Melbourne as guests at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival: Mon 22 Jan at Bennetts Lane, Wed 24 at 9th Ward, Fri 27 at Retro Cafe. On their return a new album for YELLOW EYE will be compiled from material recorded late in November last year . Three new members are involved with the group since their last 1997 release . . . John Bell (vibes) and Dave Leahy (double bass) are now overseas replaced by Chris Williamson (guitar) Tim Jaray (Double Bass) and Toby Laing (Trumpet, Synth).

TREES2: Continuing on a jazz and instrumental theme, a second TREES Compilation will be compiled, this time scouring the length and breadth of the country - not just Wellington for material.

Shes Insane / Mestar: SHE's INSANE have secured a fourth NZOA video grant for their new track E-SONG, the band are looking at an animated vid this time around, new applications for the January round will include SHE's INSANE (Suspension) and MESTAR (Mestar Song), speaking of which MESTAR have completed recording twelve new songs which are to be mixed by Dale Cotton (of HDU fame) later in the month.

Yellow Eye Party: Our first label party was held earlier in January. A big thanks to the performers and all who came we hope you enjoyed it as much as us, Grant Ramsay of SWAMPY fame kicked it off on acoustic guitar and mouth organ, followed by DEL GIRL - 3 women vocalsists - Deirdre (double bass) and Erin (guitar and trumpet) from T &D BIGGER BAND along with newcomer Lynn (ukelele and snare). THE HARPIES vocal group Deirdre and Lynn again along with Claire and Inge. It all finished off with the bulk of c.l bob - Steve, Nils, Chris and Simon along with 2 double basses, Deirdre and Rob and trumpet, Erin completing a great set from a septet. It all looks likely to become an annual affair with next year a possible Weetbix Boys set/reunion!!!! My turn thanks very much. Over and Out for January.
