UPDATE 1 : SEPTEMBER 2000 JAZZ NEWS
In the mean time keep those ears and eyes peeled for the latest TARDIS offshoot featuring front man Warren Maxwell and Drummer Darren Mathiassen of TRINITY with a self titled debut CD EP self release. On monthly visits to christchurch dialogue continues with Simon Kay leader of what was EAT MY SHORTS now named STRETCH. This 8 piece horn led groove funk-soul outfit are looking at a debut album release having taken most of the year off to complete it, they'll be looking to hit back on the live scene with a vengeance in 2001. Speaking of which C.L. BOB will be going hard on the road during their pretty much regular January jaunt this time hoping to include the Melbourne Jazz Festival, they're also performing more regularily in hometown Wellington . . . check out THE GRAND on Wednesdays. Ideally a new album will be recorded on their return from touring early in 2001. The same can be said for the next Jazz Sampler TREES2 which may well have a wider scope to include bands from the South Island as well as Wellington this time around. Possiblities are also being looked into with Syzygy leader Jeff Henderson for a new project - album release next year along with a release of their 1995 tape only album CONTEMPORARY COLLECTIVE CONVERSATIONS onto CD. GENERAL NEWS SHE'S INSANE continue to be the major focus for the label. We have a third video out BROKEN which has been playlisted on JUICE TV (Sky Digital) along with the first vid DAISY. It's amazing what a couple of face to face meetings can do . . . the band recently played four gigs in the Auckland and Hamilton area with JEBADIAH. SPACE (TV2 Friday) also gave the BROKEN vid its premier, CRY TV (UHF) in Christchurch will also be featuring the vid soon. A big coupe for Yellow Eye was the recent contact by New Music TV in England for videos. This nationwide ITV show will be getting 3 SHE'S INSANE vids - BROKEN, DAISY and BABY ONE along with band intro's from the bottom of the world for their viewers. The show begins airing in Spring our time . . . soon. A second trip to Auckland is all but confirmed for SHE'S INSANE and THE BATS, who launch their GREATEST HITS CD in November . . . KINGS ARMS Nov 10 /11 is set down for that one. Over the next couple of months decisions need to be made about the next SHE'S INSANE release, (five new songs are already recorded) we'll keep you posted. Circle One Records (Nagoya Japan) have offered us access to AWAL an internet system that has some 600000 subscribers located in covenience stores for fast downloads to digital players, if any group gets popular further opportunities for future cd releases are likely. Dialogue has begun or is about to with Dunedin band MESTAR who are looking at recording a full length album over Summer, also in the same boat are Invercargill's CORNERSTONE. Upcoming NZOA Video Grant applications (Mid September) are being organised for SHE'S INSANE - E SONG off the new batch of recordings, already heard on Channel Z and Squeeze (TV2 - live at Queenstowns Big Air). Possibly tracks by STRETCH, TARDIS - SENSE, and MESTAR - GIVE US A BREAK. Additions to the general Yellow Eye Catalogue in association with CD Star (soundbytes and direct purchase) will include the following . . . DUNEDIN COMPILATIONS - SCENE and SCENE2 from RATBRAIN RECORDS, BLOOM - ADULT THEMES, QUINCY McLEAN AND THE SMOOTH BASTARDS - FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES, GRINSPOON - SELF TITLED EP, CARE FACTOR SAMPLER - PUNK O'CLOCK, HOMEGROWN MOVIE SOUNDTRACK.
