No news is bad news on the TARDIS front, at worst we'll be able to include a couple of tracks on the upcoming TREES 2 compilation (EYE 020) set down for Summer 2001-02 release.

Speaking of which, contact has been made with many of NZ's luminaries in the jazz field (M. Nock, N. Haines, Nairobi Trio, Blue Train, M. De Clive Lowe) to see if we can put together a truely awesome and interesting NZ jazz/instrumental release. We now open dialogue with these folk and see what it brings in Spring. So far we have new tracks (not all on their new album EYE 019) from C.L.BOB, plus possibles from John Bell (ex C. L. BOB vibes player now in Oz, Jeff Henderson, TWINSET and TARDIS. Jeff is currently cruising the world but hopes to return to get material down for Trees 2 including a possible remix of the title track from Trees (EYE 004), as well as another more wayward, challenging SYZYGY CREATIVE MUSIC ENSEMBLE full length cd. Initial artwork ideas have been discussed with Dunedin's own nature illustrator extroardinaire Jo Ogier who was thinking of the New Zealand Beech Forest as the theme for this release (Some of Jo's work on the Sub Antarctic islands was recently exhibited at the DPAG). Confirmation has just come through from SONART in Sydney that YELLOW EYE JAZZ has secured distributive support from them through out Oz once these new releases and some promotional gigs can be arranged - looking like early next year 2002.

GENERAL: A new David Eggleton project has been given assistance by Creative New Zealand and will enable musicians Jordan Reyne, David Downes, Michael Morley, Martin Phillips, Joost Langveld and Jay Clarkson to put their music to David's lyrics. The working title for the project is ORIGINAL VERSIFIER (EYE 018) and should be on for a release in early summer .

We're still hopeful of getting the Tardis album (EYE 014) together however Warren and Darren are heavily involved with TRINITY ROOTS at this time, similarily so for a new SHE'S INSANE release (EYE 017) which will include 5 new studio tracks - 'Pony Ride', 'Eggshells', 'Suspension', 'Be Something' and 'E Song' which has an animated video involving skeletons currently under the production of David Saunders (ex 3 D's). The band's 3 previous videos for 'Daisy', 'Broken' and 'Baby One' will also be included on this release along with a couple of unreleased live tracks.

I've heard that Grant Ramsay is working toward a second release as SWAMPY from the depths of his North East Valley garden shed.

Have been privileged to hear the full rough mixes of the new MESTAR album (Jay Clarkson now involved with the band) which I believe will be completed during springtime up in Auckland with John, Stefan and Dale Cotton - should get a release in the Summer, but by whom???

Really enjoyed the new CLOWNDOG EP 'Cantankerous Mainstream' out of Christchurch this was quickly followed up by a support of KITCH down here at ARC in Dunedin - a great show all round as well as a laugh on local COW TV with Spanky's chops!!!!

DEL GIRL (2 x ex T & D BIGGER BAND plus Lynn) have their first gig for 2001 July 12 at the Gresham in Dunedin - acoustic guitars, ukelele, trumpet, violin, snare and double bass to feature along with three part vocal harmonies. Next gig for them between study is November at the Gresham Dunedin. TWINSET - 3 piece hammond fronted - sax/drums trio from Wellington have also caught the ear of late - must get in touch with those lads who would be great on the new jazz compilation but also for a full length cd release in the new year. GROOVY.
